Volunteering

VOLUNTEERING

The Fayette County Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization relying upon the generosity of volunteers and the public in order to carry out our rescue programs. We are always excited to meet new people who want to assist us in our mission by giving their time. We have many avenues for volunteering and welcome individuals who can help. We always need individuals with new talents and skills and those with a desire to learn and participate with others in achieving the goal of finding permanent loving homes for animals in need. All volunteers are required to attend one orientation session prior to volunteering.  Once you have submitted an application or called our phone line expressing your interest in volunteering, you will be contacted with information on the orientation schedule.

FOSTERING: Because we do not have a shelter, our animals are cared for in foster homes. The more fosters homes we have, the more animals we are able to help. Fostering can be for very short periods or more extended periods until a good forever home is found. For more detailed information about fostering, please see our Foster Program page.

ADOPTIONS: The Fayette County Humane Society holds adoptions every Saturday and Sunday at the Peachtree City PetSmart located at 2701 Highway 54, behind Best Buy. Saturday adoptions are held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday adoptions are held from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The FCHS often holds adoptions at other locations as well as at the Peachtree City PetSmart. Please see our Current & Upcoming Events page for other adoption locations and dates.

CAT CARE ROOM: The “Cat Room” at the Peachtree City PetSmart is a temporary home to a number of cats in our care. These cats can be seen by potential adoptive parties during PetSmart store hours. They are cared for twice a day (morning and evening). The evening shift is manned by our dedicated volunteers who sign up for specific shifts or on a standby basis. In addition to monitoring the overall well being of the resident kitties, they are given social interaction, their cages are cleaned, food and water are provided, and litter boxes are tended to.  Training is provided for this very important work.  We currently need volunteers to clean the cat care room weekday mornings.  If you can help, please email info@fayettehumane.org.

TRANSPORTING: On occasion, transportation is needed to bring animals to or from adoptions or veterinary appointments.

FUNDRAISING: The FCHS sponsors various fundraising events throughout the year.

FERAL CAT PROGRAM:
We have a limited number of humane cat traps available to loan to people needing help trapping a cat. We need volunteers to help with delivering traps and teaching people to use the traps, as well as providing trapping assistance to those unable to do the trapping themselves.

PHONE LINES: Many people contact us through our phone lines for information about volunteering, adoptions, finding a stray, and for spay/neuter information. Volunteers take calls, provide the requested information or forward the caller to an appropriate source.

While volunteers must be at least 14 years of age, we know that younger individuals would also like to help. This age limit refers to working at our adoptions and most of our other events, but there are still many ways younger people, whether individuals or groups can help. Please contact us and our Volunteer Coordinator will share these methods with you.

There are other ways to volunteer as well, such as helping with our quarterly newsletter mailings, making follow-up calls, conducting follow-up home visits, and giving presentations to schools and community groups.

If you are interested in more information, call our phone line at 770-487-1073. Or, if you would like to submit a volunteer application, please click here.

Our Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you.
