All of our rescued pets are kept in private homes by dedicated volunteers or in the Cat Care Room at the Peachtree City PetSmart. These animals are given sanctuary and all necessary veterinary care until permanent loving homes can be found. Foster care is provided in accordance with Fayette County's pet ordinance.

Foster Guidelines
The Rewards
To those of us who love animals, the reward of seeing an abandoned animal become someone’s beloved pet is enormous. Because we do not have a facility, all of our animals live in foster homes until they are adopted or in the Cat Care Room at PetSmart. They come to us from many different places and circumstances such as strays, abandonment, owner surrenders, abusive situations, and litters from pets and strays that were never sterilized. By providing a temporary place to live, you are saving lives and giving many pets the opportunity to find permanent loving homes.
Foster Animals
All pets brought into the FCHS foster system must be approved by members of the Board of Directors. If you rescue a stray animal, unless the animal is approved by the Board of Directors, it cannot be fostered under the FCHS license and you will be responsible for all vet costs.
The FCHS does not accept any stray animal into the foster program until every attempt has been made to ensure that the animal does not have an owner. This includes notifying Animal Control, posting flyers in the county where the animal was found, and placing an ad in the local newspaper.
Additionally, although we are not affiliated with the Fayette County Animal Shelter, if a foster family is available, we rescue pets from the shelter, eliminating the threat of euthanasia.
Housing Requirements
Depending on whether you foster dogs or cats, requirements may vary. You may need an area away from any pets of your own. All cats and kittens are to be kept indoors only. Ideally, a puppy should have a separate kennel area or small confined space in your home. Even one puppy not housetrained can wreak havoc if allowed to run free in your house. Adult dogs need a secure fenced yard. The FCHS will not be held liable for damages to your property or person from any foster pet.
Vet Care
Pets will be tested before being placed in a foster home. However, some diseases may be undetectable while in the incubation stage; therefore it is not always possible to guarantee an animal’s health.
The FCHS is responsible for the cost of all veterinary care. You may be asked to take the pet to a local vet clinic for routine care. All pets, including puppies and kittens, are spayed or neutered before adoption, or new adopters are issued spay/neuter certificates to have the surgery performed at our expense. We will coordinate with you arrangements for the surgery if this is to be done prior to adoption.
Supplies
All supplies, such as food, kennels, and litter will be provided. However, since we receive no state or local funding, we depend on donations to pay for these supplies. If you can provide any of these items, it is most appreciated.
Adoption Days
Once the pet is ready for adoption, you will be responsible for bringing the pet to the Peachtree City PetSmart on Saturdays at 11:45 a.m. and Sundays at 12:15 p.m.
