The current list of loving dogs we have for adoption

Why should you adopt from us when you can go to the animal shelter and get a pet for much cheaper? Because all of our pets have been to the vet several times to insure they are in perfect health. Many of our animals are pulled from animal shelters and need to be dewormed and given medicine. Our pets are all up to date with shots and spayed or neutered (or we give you a certificate to get it done for free). The puppy/dog fee is $130. If you are interested in any dog in particular, please fill out a Dog pre-adoption form about the dog you have in mind. If you have any questions or would like to see the pet, email (info@fayettehumane.org) or call us (770-487-1073) and we will contact you to tell you more about the pet. To see all dogs at once, come to the PETsMART in Fayette Pavilion and/or Peachtree City on Saturday afternoons from Noon-4 p.m. (we do not have a shelter). All pets can be taken home the day you adopt them after you fill out paperwork. Please stop by one of our adoptions or contact us for more information. (Please note that we are not affiliated with the Fayette County Animal Shelter and you must contact them for information on animals at the shelter. The phone number for the shelter is 770-631-7210.) Having pets is proven to lower stress!

Adoption fee includes:
Spay/neuter, microchip w/ registration, up to date shots (all shots if they are old enough), deworming, flea treatment, coupons provided by Petsmart for discounts on great items (some free!), and a DVD on what to do after you bring your new dog home.

Polly

Polly is a young Jack Russell with springs in her feet. She is incredibly energetic and loving and sweet. She's fearful of strangers, but once she knows you, she's a sweet gal. Polly does well with larger dogs, but isn't so good with dogs her own size. She can be very protective of her food when she is with other dogs, so she is best suited being the only dog in a home that is filled with adults and patient teenagers. She is being trained by one of our volunteers in basic obedience commands. No small children, please. She needs a family that can love her and teach her that humans are nothing to be afraid of. Polly is recovering from a shoulder injury, but is looking for the perfect family who will love her unconditionally and be patient with her.

Zena

Zena is a 3 year old shih tzu and Shar pei mix weigh 25lbs. Zena is current on vacs, spayed, microchipped, and heartworm negative and is on heartworm prevention. She is also housebroken and loves people and other dogs. She needs a family with alot of time to give her and maybe even someone interested in agility. Zena will be such a blessing to your family and bring you many happy memories:)

Wendy

Wendy is a little over 1 year old. Her past owner never spent time with her. Because of this she is shy. She gets along with other dogs and cats. Seems to be happier with women. NO KIDS. She is so sweet and loving.

Shamus

Shamus is a 4 1/2 month old terrier mix. He has been dewormed, and given his vacs. Shamus hasn't been neutered or microchipped yet so we are taking pre-adopts on this baby for now. Shamus was rescued from the cruel hand of some teenage boys by a volunteer's daughter's boyfriend. He saw these boys start to drag something behind a moving car..and it happend to be poor Shamus. When he started yelping in pain from bouncing on the pavement his rescuer realized it was a puppy. He ran at after the car screaming causing the abusiers to let go of the rope. Shamus then rolled under the tires missing them and landing in the grass. From this abuse he had severe road rash which is healing nicely now. It also left him very scared of people at first but with lots of love and care he, he has learned that people can be nice too:) From the picture it is hard to tell but the black on him looks blue to match his beautiful blue eyes. This boy loves to play and run and give kisses and anothe

Sophie

Sophie is a beautiful 2 year old BullMastiff. She has been spayed, microchipped, is heartworm negative and takes preventive to keep her that way. She is also current on her vacs. Sophie was also abused when we got her. She had grown up most of her life on a 6ft tye-out. When she was alittle over a year old she got caught up in the tye-out wrapping it tightly around her back left leg. This caused severe trauma to her leg and of course intstead of choosing to treat her injury the owner wanted to put her to sleep. That's where we came in, the doctor called and asked us to help her because she is so sweet and deserved a second chance. After 2 months of antibiotics and lots of love and care she was able to keep her leg because the doctors kept thinking the nerves were damaged to bad and the leg would have to come off. But her foster mom and daughter took great care of her and now she gallops around full of fun. Sophie is housebroken but doesn't like other animals at ALL. She enjoys

Argo

Argo 10 month old dachshund mix. Very active. UTD on shots, neutered ,microchipped.

Argo belonged to a neighbor of one of our volunteers who spent 4 months trying to get the puppy. He was tied outside and not given enough attention. So he needs some reminders on house breaking and manners. He is very active and would be better for a home with older children. He is use to kids, dogs and cats

He needs someone who will appreicate his energy.

Loveable

Beagle Mix. Tan/White. Great w/ other dogs. Likes to chase cats. Loves to play ball, sit and shake.

Bonnie

CLyde

Buster

Buster is a year old Chihuahua mix. He weighs 11lbs. He has been neutered, microchipped, all vacs. and dewormed. This little guy is the sweetest thing. He seems to like other animals but mostly wants to sit in your lap. Buster is 90% housebroken. This poor baby was also saved the day he was supposed to be put to sleep at the county pound. The only down side for this poor baby is that he is heart worm positive. He is about to start treatment but donations WOULD HELP SO MUCH to save this poor boy's life.

Isis

Isis ( Twinkle ) is a two year old Beagle/Husky mix. She weighs 30lbs. She has been spayed, dewormed, all vacs, & microchipped. She loves children is housebroken and seems to like most dogs. The only problem remaining for Twinkle is to be treated for heart worms. She will be treated next week, since this is a very expensive procedure donations WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL in saving her life. Her foster mom pulled her the day she was going to be put to sleep at the county pound. Twinkle is a little skittish at first if hands are raised around her, which is as we all know this is a sign of animal that has been struck. Help us to continue giving this blue eyed baby the help she deserves.

Boomer & Tank

Boomer (black lab) and Tank (golden lab) are brothers and will be a year old June 29. They are UTD on shots and have been neutered - very sweet and

loving. Boomer and Tank would love to find a forever home that would like to keep them together but they realize that might be hard to do. Although

they are attached to each other they also want a human family to love and if they need to be separated that is fine. They love the water and the family that had them since they were babies got mad because they wanted to swim in the pool - guess these people didn't know anything about labs!! They would be the perfect pair to live on some acreage with a pond. They are just wonderful boys.

I adopted a dog - now what?

YOUR “TO DO” LIST
  • ADVISE YOUR VET AND FORWARD MEDICAL RECORDS

Every dog in our rescue program has a folder containing the dog’s known medical history. This folder is given to you when the adoption is finalized. Give your vet a copy of these records so your vet will send you a reminder when shots and other preventative care is due. You will not need to take your newly adopted dog to visit the vet unless it is a puppy who will need another DHPP or rabies vaccine. FCHS has already provided your adult dog with a preliminary general exam, at least one round of DHPP and rabies vaccinations, bordatella (kennel cough) vaccine, heartworm test and monthly preventative, monthly flea preventative, spay or neuter, and a dental if needed. Adoption fees pay for these important veterinary services.

  • BUY HEARTWORM PREVENTATIVE AND FLEA CONTROL.

We recommend Interceptor for monthly heartworm prevention because it kills whipworms (common in Georgia) and other intestinal worms in addition to heartworms. Before he can provide you with the preventive medication, your vet will need to see the results of your dog’s heartworm blood test. These test results are part of the medical records you received at the adoption. You must continue heartworm prevention each month without fail. If you delay even one month’s treatment, your dog will need another blood test to ensure he has not contracted heartworm. PLEASE TAKE HEARTWORM CONTROL SERIOUSLY. Heartworm is easy and inexpensive to prevent, and unfortunately we are seeing more and more dogs suffering from heartworm due to owner neglect. Heartworm is fatal if not treated, and it is painful. Fleas and ticks can be controlled with a monthly application of Frontline, available at your vet and now, also, at PetSmart.

  • CHECK THE STOOL.

It is not unusual for a dog to experience stomach upset and diarrhea or loose stool the first day or two. If the dog’s stool doesn’t look firm within a week or so, or you see something odd in the stool, you can take in a stool sample for the vet to check. All dogs have been wormed prior to adoption, but sometimes there can be another intestinal parasite or worms can be persistent.

  • PUPPY SHOTS.

If you adopted a puppy, check your medical sheet to see what boosters and additional worming may be needed from your vet.

ENJOY A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE WITH YOUR DOG!
