Available Dogs

Because our fosters work hard to rescue dogs who sometimes have had rough starts or sad circumstances and start to socialize them to be loving, trusting, indoor companions, we believe it is in their best interest to live in homes where they will truly be part of a family as indoor pets.  True members of the family live indoors and spend quality time enjoying each other.  Dogs are social creatures and thrive on companionship as much as humans do.

The Fayette Humane Society encourages you to adopt an animal in need, understanding that our dogs will be adopted only to indoor homes where they will be a part of the family.  We believe that putting a dog outside, unsupervised, for extended lengths of time is NOT in the best interest of the dog.

Fencing Requirements:  Some dogs require a fenced in yard.  If we state that a dog must have a physical fence and you don't have one, please don't be insulted!  We are not implying that you would not provide a good home for the dog, rather that, in our opinion, your home would not be the right home for that particular dog.  There may be many reasons why our dogs need physical containment.  Hound mixes and terrier mixes are not always reliable off-leash and will follow their noses as far as they can.  Invisible fencing doesn't always work for these dogs either, since they will take the shock to be able to chase a rabbit, squirrel or the occasional cat.  Some dogs have a hard time learning to go potty while on a leash. For these dogs, the lack of a fenced yard may cause them to lose their housetraining.  Some dogs have sensitive temperaments.  For those dogs, electric training collars and invisible fencing collars that use shock correction are poor training methods, as they can cause the dog to become fear-aggressive.  With a foster-based program and years of rescue experience, we are able to judge each dog on his/her own merits.  We wish to place the dogs in homes that will provide the best possible fit, both for their personalities and for the characteristics you are seeking in your new family member.  Please help us set them up for success by honoring our fencing requirements for some of our dogs.

Below is a list of the puppies/dogs available for adoption. If you are interested in any dog in particular, please fill out the online Dog Pre-Adoption Form about the dog you have in mind. If you have any questions or would like to see the pet, email (info@fayettehumane.org) or call us (770-487-1073) and we will contact you to tell you more about the pet.

Adoptions: To see many of our dogs at once, come to the PetSmart in Peachtree City on Saturday afternoons from 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday afternoons from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Usually, all pets can be taken home the day you adopt them after you fill out paperwork. Mr. Brumby and Mr. Dorsey Stars of the Week       DOB:  10/19/11

Mr. Dorsey

Mr. Brumby

Look at these beautiful pups!  These brothers love playing and lounging in the sun.  They get along with everyone and love to play with the other puppies in their foster home.   Complete a pre-adopt here.

Benji DOB:  12/1/03
Benji is an eight year old PBGV mix. (Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen: Don't try to pronounce the name; just call this shaggy scenthound the PBGV. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen has long been a popular hound in France, its country of origin. It is the smallest of four breeds of rough-coated French hounds.) His elderly owner loved him a lot but also fed him a lot and we don't think he got out much. He was very overweight when he came to us but he has trimmed down to a reasonable weight through exercise and a sensible diet. He is very playful and loves to run in the yard with other dogs. Benji is also a sad boy because he came to us when his human died several months ago. His new humans would need to keep him active with daily walks, watch his food intake and not be suckered (by his big puppy dog eyes) into giving him too many treats. Benji is a really sweet boy and would make a great companion to an active older person. He seems to be a very happy go lucky dog who just needs someone to love.   Complete a pre-adopt here.

Tipi  DOB:  6/1/11

Tipi is a precious Terrier mix that was rescued from a nearby shelter.  Maybe a better name would be "Shadow" because she wants to be attached to you at all times.  She's a very sweet puppy that would be an excellent loyal companion.  Tipi is spayed, up to date on vaccines, micro-chipped, dewormed and ready to go!  Complete a pre-adopt here.

Complete a pre-adopt here.

Skeeter DOB:  10/1/06

Skeeter is a brown lab mix who is very playful and loving.  She gets along with other dogs and will love you forever if you just rub her tummy.  Skeeter loves to play fetch and run in a fenced yard.  Skeeter is spayed and current on vaccinations.  If you have room in your home for Skeeter, please complete a pre-adopt here.

Scooter DOB:  10/1/09

Scooter is looking for a new home through no fault of his or his family's.  Due to unforeseen circumstances, Scooter's family must find a new home for him.  Scooter loves people, children and other dogs.  He loves to cuddle on the sofa after a tiring day of chasing falling leaves in the backyard.  Scooter is neutered and current on vaccinations.  Please complete a pre-adopt here.

Gibbs DOB:  2/1/11

Gibbs is loving and polite with a unique coat color. Gibbs lost his family on New Year’s Eve and found himself at animal control. He felt lost and unsure of his fate. All he wants is someone to be his best friend forever. Gibbs is loyal, loves people, and likes to play with other dogs. At his foster home he is quickly learning to sit for his meals and wait at the gate. He is teachable and eager to learn. He loves to snuggle with people and he’ll remind you ever day how special you are. He is a short (20” tall) shepherd/ lab mix, about 1 ½ years old. Will you let him be your best friend?  Please complete a pre-adopt here.

Isabella DOB:  To Be Determined

Isabella is an 11 pound chihuahua mix who was rescued from the local animal shelter.  She is a very sweet girl looking for a calm household with older children.  She is great with other dogs and would be a great companion for another dog.  Isabella needs a stay at home parent who is willing to catch her up on her housebreaking.  Please complete a pre-adopt here.
