About the Fayette Humane Society

Our History

Incorporated in 1973, we are the oldest non-profit humane organization in Fayette County. We do not have a shelter and are not affiliated with the County owned and operated Animal Shelter. However, we do work with the shelter to save homeless animals, often rescuing pets from the facility when a foster home is available. They are then put up for adoption at PetSmart after they are tested, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered (or arrangements are made for spay or neuter). We believe that all companion pets have intrinsic value and should be treated with reverence and the care they deserve.

Our Mission

The Fayette County Humane Society is dedicated to ending the needless suffering of unwanted pets through our aggressive spay/neuter program. The fewer breedable animals in the community, the fewer unwanted litters. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless animals in the community. We test, vaccinate, and go one step further by having all our adoption pets spayed or neutered (or making arrangements for spaying/neutering) prior to adoption, ensuring that they will not reproduce and add to the overpopulation problem.

How You Can Help

Donate your TIME, TALENTS and MONEY. We are always in need of dedicated volunteers and funds to continue our mission of helping homeless pets. Please read about Volunteer Opportunities and complete a volunteer form or check out some other ways you can help:

• If you own a business, consider sponsoring a fundraiser.  Could you offer monetary support, or donate an item or service for a raffle?  Items such as DVD players, trips, airline tickets, cars, etc.!  This is a great way to show your support of your local humane society, and a great way to publicize your business.
• Do you work at a restaurant that will designate a "Fayette Humane Society Day” once a month and donate a percentage of the profits to the Humane Society?
• Donate your professional services -- grant writing, legal, marketing, fundraising, computer.
• Are you a teacher or Scout master?  Have your class or scout troop organize a fundraiser such as a car wash, “pennies for pets”, bake sale, or yard sale
• Donate kitten or puppy food, slightly used towels or bathmats, dog leashes, collars, pet toys, Frontline or Advantage flea treatment.  Items may be dropped off on Saturdays between noon-4pm at our weekly PETsMART adoptions.

We appreciate your support!!

We offer financial assistance for emergency vet care and spay neuter assistance to anyone who needs it for their pet, as funds permit. This is in addition to our rescued and fostered pets that need medical care prior to adoption. We are constantly in need of funds. The more we have the more we can help!
